The latest data from Gecko Risk shows that battery electric vehicle (BEV) accident volumes and associated repair costs are becoming an increasingly important focus for the insurance and repair sectors.
In July alone, more than 12,200 BEV accidents were recorded across the UK – a 20% increase on the previous month and the highest monthly total to date. This surge reflects the continued growth of the BEV market and the corresponding rise in claims activity.
Gecko’s analysis reveals that average BEV crash repair costs are now at their lowest point in more than three years, following a steady decline since March 2025. July data shows BMW in particular has reduced its average repair costs significantly since the start of the year, now sitting close to 10% below both Audi and Mercedes. Tesla’s costs remain the most stable among the top five manufacturers, suggesting repairers are becoming increasingly adept at working with the brand.
The data also shows that BYD, despite being a relative newcomer to the UK market, has recorded more than 1,500 accidents with repair costs proving relatively competitive against comparable makes.
A cost breakdown for July places average BEV repair expenses just over £3,000, with parts and labour representing the largest portions, followed by paint and other costs.
